As a country in the African continent, South Africa is well aware of the difficulties in vaccine distribution in poor and remote areas, as well as the challenges of vaccine hesitancy caused by cultural and religious differences. In the process of promoting clauses such as the Regional Vaccine Education & Innovation Hubs and the Community Health Educator network, I negotiated with delegates of other countries several times. I had to uphold the demands of developing countries while balancing the interests of all parties to seek common ground. This made me understand that international cooperation is never a one-sided demand, but a mutually beneficial win-win situation achieved through empathy.
This MUN event further made me see the responsibilities on the shoulders of young people. When we spoke up for the 14 million children who have not received any vaccines, what we defended was the right of every life to equally enjoy health protection. In the future, I am willing to carry this reflection and enthusiasm, continue to pay attention to global public health issues, and contribute my share to building a more equitable world with the strength of young people.
